Final 19 14
War Cats win a battle in Elikns. Down 14-13 with less than a minute in the game the Cats turned to the smallest, "big man" on the team, Michael Upton 5'5" 145lbs from Springdale High School. Uptons 56 yd touchdown reception from Chance Kipness (12 of 18, 215 yds, 1 td) with 48 seconds remaining capped a wild second half which saw a War cats fumble that should have been an Extreme touchdown turn into a 98 yd touchdown run, a interception to stop a drive that resulted in an Extreme safety, and finally finished off by Upton's dazzeling catch and run in which he broke two tackles and outran the Extreme secondary to the end zone for the games winning score. Upton finished the game with 7 catches for 137yds and 1 touchdown. Arkansas' defense was the story for most of the game. The defense led by former Razorback linebacker Wes O'Neal and Missouri Southern States Rafael "Brew" Brewster, with Steve Agnew and Camron Thomas, the War Cats defense recorded 7 sacks, 2 interception, and a blocked punt which was scooped up by Thomas and returned for a touchdown for the first points of the game with 4:44 left in the first half. JD Woodcock also recorded 2 sacks in the win. Lincoln quickly responded with a 58 yd TD pass but missed the extra point to trail 7-6 at halftime. Arkansas' defense came up big again in the third quarter forcing the Extreme to turn over on downs at the 2 yd line. The fumble on the War Cats first play of the drive resulted in a fumble at the 2 yd line which was recovered by the Extreme LB but lost control of the ball trying to crawl on his knees to the goal line, Antwan Dyer picked up the loose ball and carried it 98 yds for the touchdown to put the Cats up 13-6 with 7:18 in the 3rd quarter. Another Arkansas fumble resulted in the Extreme scoring and leading 13-12 on a missed extra point. Lincoln scored again late in the third, driving Extreme QB Chris Chmelka was intercepted by Derrick Walker at the one, trying to evade a tackler Walker stepped across the goal line and was tackled for a Lincoln safety to take the lead 14-13 with 4:18 remaining in the third. It was a story of defense until Uptons game winning catch. The War Cats will be on the road the next to weeks before returning to Elkins on July 11th to face the OKC Gunners. Saturday Arkansas will travel to Bonner Springs, KS to take on the Kansas Kaos and will travel to the East Tulsa Sports Complex on June 27th to take on the Oklahoma Knights of the OMFL.
